Scott Sams is Vice President of Institutional Business Development at MLG Capital. He leads institutional business development and supports the firm’s capital formation efforts. Based in Des Moines, Iowa, Scott focuses on cultivating new institutional investor relationships across public pension funds, corporate pension funds, insurance companies, Taft-Hartley plans, endowments, and foundations throughout North America.
Prior to joining MLG Capital, Scott was a Managing Director at Principal Asset Management, where he led investor relations efforts across North America. He also held roles in portfolio management for Principal Life’s General Account private real estate equity portfolio and worked as an underwriter for private real estate debt transactions.
Scott received an MBA in business administration from Drake University and a bachelor’s degree in management and economics with a specialization in finance from Simpson College. He is a Certified Investment Management Analyst through the Investments & Wealth Institute and holds Series 3, 7, 63, and 65 licenses.
Outside of the office, Scott enjoys traveling with family, spending time with his children and grandchildren, cycling on bike trails throughout the Des Moines metro area, walking, rucking, and watching college football. Scott is also a member of CFA Society of Iowa.
